Islamophobia in France
Islamophobia in France is a growing problem. Every year, hundreds of Muslims are targeted in attacks or with hate speech because of their religion. The country's Muslim population are systematically excluded from government jobs and face racism on a daily basis. Women, in particular, are the subject of assaults on their individual liberty based on the clothes they wear and how they choose to practice their faith.
France's diverse Muslims
Despite the Islamophobia in France, French Muslims continue to enrich French life and French culture. They hail from dozens of countries, each bringing their unique cultural perspectives to France and its daily life. From sports, to art, to music, and the world of business, France's vibrant and diverse Muslim population contribute much to the country.
What happens in France matters
France has the highest proportion of Muslim citizens in the entirety of Europe. What happens in France matters; it can be either a guiding light or a warning sign for other European countries and other European Muslims. Islamophobia Watch France is a way for English-speaking audiences to understand what is happening in the world of French Muslims, and to peel back the lid on the media and Islamophobic leaders who fuel anti-Muslim hatred. We shine a light on the problem of Islamophobia in France, while also ensuring we highlight the array of achievements, big and small, of France's Muslims.
